Rodney van der Ree - Project manager
Dr Rodney van der Ree is an ecologist with the Australian Research
Centre for Urban Ecology. He obtained his PhD in 2000 from Deakin
University where he studied the impacts of habitat fragmentation
on arboreal marsupials in north-eastern Victoria. He used the principles
of landscape ecology to investigate the response of fauna to a landscape
where the habitat was arranged as a network of linear strips along
roads and streams. Rodney has expanded this work to focus on studying
the impacts of humans on biodiversity. This includes investigating
the response of biota to urbanisation and the effects of roads and
traffic on flora and fauna.

Andrea Taylor - Research associate/student supervisor
Having started her professional life as a geneticist with no zoological
and little ecological background, Andrea Taylor now focuses her research
efforts on mammal ecology! Specifically she uses molecular genetic
marker technology to examine aspects of population dynamics and ecology,
along with how these might be altered in the face of disturbances
such as habitat fragmentation and other human-induced geographic barriers.

Paul Sunnucks - Research associate/student supervisor
Paul is a Senior Lecturer in Zoology at Monash University, Melbourne.
His research career has been highly collaborative, yet largely focussed
on molecular population biology, a fusion of evolutionary ecology
and population biology with strong input from the tools of molecular
genetics. Paul developed this research direction through undertaking
a classic Zoology degree (Oxford UK) followed by a PhD in behavioural
ecology (University College London). He and Andrea Taylor run the
Molecular Ecology group at Monash, which engages in research into
natural and human-impacted patterning of animal populations. Also
with Andrea Taylor, Paul has two daughters, Alice and Ruby who enjoy
gymnastics, camping and finding out what bugs do.

Mike Harper - Research Assistant
Mikes' ecological training includes a PhD. in Ecology (University
of Melbourne), a degree in Environmental Science (The University
of Queensland) and a Diploma in Science (horticulture). While based
at the Australian Research Centre for Urban Ecology, Mike has worked
in the field of landscape ecology, focusing on building and testing
habitat model for urban wildlife.

Silvana Cesarini - PhD. Student
Silvana graduated with a BSc. (Hons) in Zoology from Cardiff University,
Wales, UK in 2003. Subsequently working as a laboratory technician
at Cardiff University on a project that investigated the effects
of biodiversity on the dynamics of predation in low-input arable
systems, using molecular approaches, and as a volunteer in Ecuador,
on a long-term project radiotracking Andean Bears. Silvanas' PhD
candidature at Monash University started in May 2005.

Chris Stewart - PhD. Student
In July 2005 I completed a Bachelor of Science degree at Monash
University. There I majored in biology and mathematics and completed
an honours year in mathematics. My research interests include mathematical
biology (in particular population modelling), ecology and conservation
biology. Outside of study, Chris enjoys trying to grow native plants
(in particular orchids), making noise on his guitar and reading.

Ashley Herrod - Honours student
Ashley completed a Bachelor of Science degree at Monash University
with a double major in Zoology and Environmental & Conservation
Biology. He is currently studying for the honours degree in biology.
Outside of study, Ashley has a keen interest in breeding birds.
