Biography
Christopher earned his Ph.D. in botany and ecology from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee working with the late Dr. Forrest Stearns, an early pioneer of the ecological study of urban areas. He is currently the Director of Research for the 600 acre (243 ha) Morton Arboretum located 28 miles (45 km) west of down town Chicago. The research program at the Arboretum focuses on growing trees and maintaining plant biodiversity in urban settings. Chris oversees a number of research groups working in a diverse range of areas including the herbarium, urban horticulture, plant pathology, natural area ecology and rare plant conservation. He is very active in issues related to plant conservation and works with a variety of community groups associated with the Chicago Wilderness Program, a program supported by the Chicago Region Biodiversity Council.
