Biography
Professor Clas Florgård became a Landscape Architect LAR-MSA
1970, and was employed at architect and landscape architect companies
1970-1983, from 1972 as senior landscape architect and from 1982
as head of landscape architect group. His approach was planning
and design as well as research. He received his doctoral degree
1982 at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. He owned
and operated private consultancy company 1984-1988, and was head
of the landscape architect division at engineering company 1989-1994.
From 1994 he is professor of Landscape Architecture and head of
department at Dept. of Landscape Planning Ultuna, The Swedish University
of Agricultural Sciences.
Clas Florgård has a wide professional approach. Urban ecology
and planning is in focus, as well as cooperation between researchers
and practitioners. In more than 30 years he has had a special interest
in preservation, management and development of urban habitats, and
especially how to preserve and utilise natural vegetation in urban
areas. He has initialised and managed over 20 research projects
concerning this topic, and has published over 30 scientific papers
and reports. In 2002 he initiated and organised the international
research symposium "Indigenous Vegetation within Urban Development
- Ecology and Management of Natural Vegetation in Urban Areas",
which became the starting point of international cooperation within
this field of research.
