Biography
Dr Meurk is a senior research scientist and has worked for the last
22 years in the New Zealand Department of Scientific and Industrial
Research then Landcare Research - the first 3 years as an agronomist.
Latterly he has been seconded to the Christchurch City Council as
an ecological adviser in policy, planning and natural area design.
He has been a guest lecturer and supervisor at Lincoln University
over the past 10 years. His primary expertise is in the fields of
plant synecology, biogeography, climatology, and land management
with particular emphasis on grazing impacts, monitoring of vegetation
change, habitat restoration, urban ecology, cultural landscape ecology/dynamics,
and integrating conservation objectives and sustainable production.
He has worked primarily within New Zealand in tundra, dry grassland,
wetland, forest and urban systems. But has also had extensive work
experience in the subantarctic islands and Antarctica with field

belief in the balance of theory and praxis. He has published over
