Biography
Robbert Snep is researcher on urban ecology at the Landscape Centre
of Alterra, Netherlands. In 1997, he finished his B.Sc.-Biology-education
with a telemetric landscape study on the European tree frog at the
Alterra-Department of Landscape Ecology (led by Prof.Dr. Paul Opdam).
In 1998, he started at that same Department as Assistant Scientist,
where he worked on landscape ecological projects for several years.
Besides this research he followed a Biology-education at Wageningen
University, where he graduated in 2002 on the topic of urban landscape
ecology. In the same year he accepted a job as researcher in this
discipline.
As research
scientist/project leader he was involved in applied and multi-disciplinary
research, consultancy and acquisition for various projects in the
specific fields of urban ecology, habitat fragmentation and infrastructure.
He's especially experienced with ecological impact assessments in
urban areas and mitigation/compensation studies for large-scale
railroad infrastructure. He's also qualified in studies on nature
development, ecological nature- and water management and animal
ecology (herpetology). In 2001, he was the initiator of the ULE-internet
discussion group (Urban Landscape Ecology), which currently contains
more than 150 scientists worldwide. In the recent past he was also
involved in some European urban research projects. All together
it provided him a broad international network in urban ecology and
herpetology.
